Andrea D. McKinney
Generations Program Director
Andrea D. McKinney is the Generations Program director at Spring Cypress Senior Living and thrives on her passion for working with individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Her journey began at the age of 18, caring for geriatrics as a certified nursing assistant. Andrea’s experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, hospice and home health led her to obtain a bachelor’s degree in public health with a pre-nursing concentration from Sam Houston State University in the fall of 2018. In December of 2019, Andrea proudly accepted her first position with Integral Senior Living (ISL) at Spring Cypress as the Generations Vibrant Life® coordinator. She is excited about the privilege and opportunity of leading the memory care department along with support from the team of directors and staff at Spring Cypress. During her transition, she obtained a Certified Dementia Practitioner certification through the National Council for Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) and began serving as a committee member in the Alzheimer’s Association: Houston Chapter.
When she is not advocating for change, Andrea enjoys cooking and sharing recipes, running in marathons all over Texas, and spending time outdoors with her two sons and husband. Her long-term goals include obtaining a bachelor’s degree in nursing and excelling in her aspirations as an ISL leader.
Resident Care Director
Alan Soledad brings years of experience as a licensed vocational nurse and a passion for establishing and nurturing relationships with residents and their loved ones. His experience includes working in skilled nursing facilities and rehabilitation facilities and teaching a class for the nursing board for several years.
It wasn’t until working in his first assisted living and memory care community that Alan found his calling, and he went back to school to pursue a degree in health care administration. At Spring Cypress Senior Living, Alan ensures our residents are in a warm environment where they are happy, are well cared for and are living vibrantly.
“I’ve been asked multiple times why I became a nurse, and the response I’ve always given is I truly believe nursing chose me. The very first day of clinical rotations was the day that my life changed forever. I spent the whole day learning from a certified nurse assistant. While doing our last rounds, one of the residents reached out, held my hand, looked me in the eye and said ‘thank you.’”
Director of Sales and Marketing
April Dennis joined Spring Cypress with 15 years of experience in the senior living industry. She has marketed all levels of care and will serve as Spring Cypress’ director of Sales and Marketing. April’s favorite part of working with seniors is helping them and their families find their perfect new home.
She loves painting and doing crafts, spending time outdoors hiking and camping, and watching Alabama football.
Shelli Smith, LBSW
Vibrant Life® Director
Shelli Smith joins our team at Spring Cypress Senior Living with more than 25 years’ experience working with senior living communities and their families. As Vibrant Life® director, she is able to enrich our residents’ lives through vibrant activities that revolve around their personal interests as well as help them explore a variety of fun and new pursuits.
Shelli and her husband, Brad, have been married for more than 20 years and have three children together. They also have two fur babies, Saylor and Demi. In her free time, Shelli loves spending time with family and friends, watching her sons play sports, and giving back to her community.
Culinary Services Director
Fortified by his grandmother’s scratch home cooking, Tony Leon developed a love and passion for cooking. As the oldest of six, he had plenty of practice making family-style meals
Tony has spent the last decade professionally cooking in various restaurants, the Hilton and the University Club Tampa. At the University Club Tampa, Tony honed his fine dining skills.
“Since starting at Spring Cypress, I’ve come to know the residents on a personal level. It’s like a second family. When my dishes make people smile, I know I did my job right.”
Business Office Director
Ashley Burns has always had a caregiver’s heart and a desire to serve others. At an early age, she began volunteering with several different groups across the U.S. serving veterans, children and seniors. She built homes for those in need, and assisted in the rebuilding of a school in Cartagena, Columbia. She then took her passion for serving others a step further and joined the U.S. Navy, where she remained for seven years.
Ashley continued her personal and professional growth as she obtained her MBA and her certification as a Dementia Live® coach and trainer. She has extensive experience in the senior care industry, specifically memory care. By drawing on her education, experience and commitment to seniors, she hopes to positively impact the lives of our residents each and every day. For her, it is all about the smiles on their faces.
Outside of work, Ashley enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She loves MMA, hunting, fishing and dancing.
Betty Self has worked in health care since 2002 in a variety of capacities, including receptionist, assistant to the Assisted Living and Independent Living director, move-in coordinator, sales counselor, and now, lead concierge. Betty also has a background in sales and marketing, helping open three new communities in her sales counselor role.
Growing up, Betty played tennis in several leagues and even worked for a 20-court tennis club owned by a professional tennis player. In her free time, Betty has a passion for decorating her home for special occasions, including holidays and birthday parties.
Betty loves being a part of our residents’ lives at Spring Cypress and hearing their stories.
